The Ziz Valley shelters some of the nicest palm groves in Morocco, starting South of Errachidia along the Ziz river on aproximately 100 km and finishing in the Sahara desert at the foot of Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) home of the highest dunes of Morocco.
Erg Chebbi is beautiful but can be very touristic at certain periods.
There are many nice places to stay although not many with a real sustainable management.
We recommend to stay at least 2 nights including a night under a tent in a "bivouac" in the dunes preferably not to close to the villages in order to feel the atmosphere of the desert.
We regret that there is not more consciousness towards sustainable tourism in this area. One part of the dunes should be forbidden to motor vehicles in order to respect the many visitors who come here to experiment the silence and serenity of the desert !
